Cats and Birds

Cat Nap by Claudine Intner - Acrylic painting on cradled wood board. 10 x 8 inches. 2020

For the past several years, my paintings have focused on colorful flowers and plants. This year I wanted to bring one of my other loves into the mix - animals. Over the years I have created many drawings for magnet designs with cats, dogs, and other critters. So painting the animals wasn't too big of a leap.

Hummingbird from Birds and Bees Sketchbook by Claudine Intner

To prepare for the new subjects, I began this summer with a project called the Birds and Bees Sketchbook where I focused on birds and insects. You can see some of the sketches on my instagram feed. My drawings include local birds such as bluebirds, cardinals, robins, and hummingbirds (shown above).

I decided my paintings would be a combination of animals with flowers and plants in the composition. I continue to work in my signature bright colors with a strong black line. The first series of paintings I have finished is cats. They include this napping cat as well as cats hiding among flowers and leaves. You can see the entire series here. They are also available as prints and magnets.

Currently I am working on bird paintings including one based on the hummingbird sketch above. I hope they will be ready to share in the coming weeks.

I hope all is well with you and your family. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! And check back Friday for my Black Friday Cyber Monday Sale.
